Hardanger Fjord: Day Two
|
Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Mat, Josh, Siv Jane, Owen and I hike to the Buer glacier in Folgefonna National Park. The hike (about 4 hours round trip) was both challenging and exhilarating. I have never done anything like it. We had to cross bridges and pull ourselves with a rope on steep climbs. The entire time I'm thinking, "I could take a wrong step and fall to my death" and "I can't believe we took Owen with us" but we all survived and we have the pictures to show for. Mat, Siv Jane and Josh actually went further and crossed the bridges with signs warning hikers of "Great Danger" until they got close and personal with the glacier. I wish I could have seen and touched the glacier too but to be honest, I was perfectly content to stay behind with Owen. The glacier is not a safe place. Lucky for us, Mat brought us a "chunk" of the glacier and Josh got a bottle of fresh glacier water to take home. The only downside during the trip was that Owen cried so much on our way back that his voice became hoarse the next day. Poor thing was so tired yet he could not fall asleep because of all the jostling. Other than that, it was a memorable trip that we will not soon forget. Oh yeah, we had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner... |
