I guess discovery comes in weird forms. We finally secured cheap flights to Kingston, Jamaica ($140/piece r/t out of Ft. Lauderdale...after taxes...god bless you SpiritAir). My only desire for going there, originally, was to get to a small town called Port Royal. Then I started taking an interest and...you know...reading stuff. The Jamaican head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who officially uses the title "Queen of Jamaica" when she periodically visits the country or performs duties overseas on Jamaica's behalf. See Jamaican Royal Family. Whoda thunk? A mere 45 years ago they were a British Colony? Am I naive--in the travel world--for not having known this sooner? I, quite foolishly, wrote this place off as a Bahamas-like tourist trap. Turns out, there may be some exploration to be done (and not just to the bottom of a bottle/glass) Does anyone else have any good info on Jamaica? I have a solid week there and apart from attempts to smuggle as much rum as humanly possible outta there, I only have 4 days planned...and by "planned" I mean, I actually have reservations at hostels. The rest is...eh...winging it. Do I have to cop the accent? |
