The River Po
|
Yesterday my friend G. set off on a long-planned for journey. He and his colleagues are rowing and sailing down the River Po. The Po, Italy’s longest river, flows through many kinds of habitats, and has historically hosted large varieties of fish. But the Po is in danger. The progressive degradation of the river is changing the relationship between the river and the human population of the surrounding areas and G. wants to bring to light these problems and talk to people who live and work along the Po. You can track his progress on his website: http://unaltropo.wordpress.com. It’s only in Italian, however. They departed from the Arsenale in Venice, the historic shipbuilding center for the Republic of Venice. |

sounds like an epic journey...they're starting in Venice and rowing down river though? wouldn't the mouth of the river be in Venice? talk about an extra layer of difficulty!
I don't know where the mouth is or anything much about sailing. If you want to write to Giacomo, I'm sure he'd love to hear from you. He reads and writes and speaks English.

Wow, sounds like a great way to raise awareness, as well as a thrilling journey! I'll have to brush up on my Italian.
Yes, too bad the site isn't in English. He's planning on making a documentary as well.
