Postcard from Livingston
|
Here's the postcard that I sent to my friend Shawn Livingston while I was in the Caribbean town of Livingston, Guatemala. Prior to my trip he had suggested that somewhere along the way I write him 64 words—one for every dollar I paid for the plane ticket (muchas gracias, Spirit Airlines). So that's what I did. 64 words: Pelicans perch on palm fronds while egrets pretend to stand still. People with nothing to do and something to watch loiter under roofs of thatch and corrugated tin. Coconut stew! Humidity unrelenting but Bob Marley promises everything will be alright. The twilight breeze beckons the river to the sea. Another day in Livingston has passed, and I am still me. Aloha, Catharine |

I couldn't imagine Livingston being captured much better than that!
Where did your Spirit air flight go to? Guat?

Yes, LAX to La Aurora airport in Guatemala City. I think they still have pretty cheap fares ($99/each way). I wouldn't call it roomy, but it was certainly tolerable for the 4+ hour trip.
