Postcard from Livingston

Here's the postcard that I sent to my friend Shawn Livingston while I was in the Caribbean town of Livingston, Guatemala. Prior to my trip he had suggested that somewhere along the way I write him 64 words—one for every dollar I paid for the plane ticket (muchas gracias, Spirit Airlines). So that's what I did.

64 words: Pelicans perch on palm fronds while egrets pretend to stand still. People with nothing to do and something to watch loiter under roofs of thatch and corrugated tin. Coconut stew! Humidity unrelenting but Bob Marley promises everything will be alright. The twilight breeze beckons the river to the sea. Another day in Livingston has passed, and I am still me. Aloha, Catharine
