Tino's Camping and Mykonos
|
The excitement of leaving the mainland and arriving on the Islands of the Cyclades, sent my heart a-twitter. This part of our journey is what I have been looking forward to for the entirity of the trip. The island of Tinos smells like fresh flowers in bloom and there is a fantastic breeze blowing through-out the day. The people were wonderfully friendly and the location where we stayed was a place I could call home for many years to come. There were cats, kittens, dogs, peacocks, chickens, budgies and plenty of other little critters running around everywhere. It felt like a little piece of home at Tinos Camping and I would love to return there one day and revisit the entire island. Our next day was a full adventurous day. We woke early to be ready to catch the ferry to the island of Mykonos. Mykonos is known as one of the most expensicve islands in the Cyclades and also the most touristy. I completely understood why Mykonos is so popular once we arrived there, the whole town is situated on the coast and all the houses and buildings are whitewashed with blue trim. There were wild pelicans walking around and most of the people there were fasinated with them. They were way taller than I had ever imagined from seeing them on television and also a beautiful pale, peach color. Jim, Kira, Lyn, Shea and I all were needing to find a fruit or vegetable satnd so we could have some healthy snacks to pack with us. We decided to go on walkabout and try to find a little grocer or a market. We got some directions from a local and headed into the narrow little alley ways of Mykonos. I was dumbfounded by how beautiful these little alleyways were and how incredible the houses were. Every house had bouganveilla growing over the doorways and the contrast in color, the stark white, the ocean blue trim and then the vibrant purples and reds of the bouganveilla flower made my heart sing sweet music. I was in heaven. I love color, lots of vibrant beautiful color and I just wanted to dig up the entire scene and fly it all home with me. Some of the images that I shared that day with my fellow students and teacher will stay with me for the rest of my life. |
