A Visit to the Center of the Universe

Upon leaving Athens, the day started out sunny and warm, and our next destination was Delphi - the Center of the Universe. My excitement could not be contained as we set out on our 6 hour drive to Delphi. This is where the Sacred Way begins and where ancient prophets sought the advice of an Oracle, Gaia's daughter. Delphi was originally protected by Gaia - Mother Earth. She was overthrown by the God Apollo who abducted her daughter Pythia and sentenced her to life as an Oracle under his great temple overlooking the land of Delphi. She was considered one of the most trusted oracle in all the land and even Kings and Queens came from far and wide to ask her their important questions. Interestingly enough, our trip was based on the 'Search for Goddesses and Heroines' and yet I found it very difficult to stay focused on Goddesses and Heroines because there was so much God and Hero influence. Seeing Greece is a patriarchial society, Antonus focused primarily on the Gods and Heros of Greece which made it difficult for us as students to search out the Goddesses and Heroines.

The town of Delphi was magnificent. I thouroughly enjoyed my stay in this small mountainous town. The shopping was fantastic and the view from our hill was spectacular. Delphi overlooked an Olive Grove plantation and then off in the distance there was the small town of Itea, which was conveniently located at the beach. Delphi was our first introduction to severe Greece heat, and it was only May!
