Is There Any Where I'd Rather Be?

When things get as shitty as they have the last few weeks I walk. As in 'hiking' walk. Regardless of the weather conditions.

In this part of the Dordogne valley, Perigord, it is rolling country side and woodlands. Which is a bit of an misnomer really as, although it is predominantly woodland, agriculture plays a major, major part in life here and when walking along some of the ridges the patchwork scenery of the various crops and woodlands is truly stunning. Walking through the woodlands is a true delight too, the wildlife and birdlife is abundant including wild boar, roe deer, otters, European Beaver are around too but are now very rare. The birds in the woods are multitude and you will be amazed by the variety and will delight in the flashes of colour as the Hoopoe, Jays and Finches go about there work of feeding their chicks at this time of year and when you are in less wooded stretches looking up you'll see the ubiquitous Buzzards soaring above.
It's not only an area for nature lovers around here, there are things for everybody of every age and generation. What are you into? Action Holidays? How about canoeing; Horse riding; go-karting; climbing; watersports et-al? History? Chateaus; Bastide Villages; Stone-Age Settlements and of course the laceuax cave paintings. Food? Come on, this is France, a nation that prides itself on its cuisine, quite rightly too. I know I've said it before but, really, if you want to visit the Dordogne valley, this really is the area to stay in. To get a true sense of France and how genuine the people and their culture are, then stay in Chambres D'Hotes, not only will you have excellent and affordable accommodation with fabulous food made from fresh ingredients, you'll have a host and hostess who know the valley, where to go and what to do, so you will never be without something to do or see.
