Two Days In

Coming into Helsinki, all I wanted was for all three of my flights to be on time and for my luggage to arrive when I did. I may have set the bar a little too low, because suddenly things I never anticipated happening are happening. In the first two days I have:

1. failed to get my wireless internet to work in the hostel
2. had my facebook account hacked
3. had the screen of my Canon A70 Powershot go black

So for today I have no camera (it's Sunday so the Stockmann department store isn't open) although I may be able to convince another girl to send me some pictures. I had the  same thing happen to my camera a few months back, but luckily I was with a friend at the time who was able to quickly fix it for me and get it back in action. This time, he's not around and my dad couldn't help me either, so I'll have to go to the store to get a new one tomorrow morning before I head to Estonia.

Otherwise Helsinki has been pleasant if brisk, but that's pretty much what I expected. I'm glad I brought my Uggs (my feet were nice and toasty). I tried a plate of Finnish fish at the market (salmon and white fish) and stepped into the food market hall, which reminded me of Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne but much smaller. And last night I got to eat for €2 thanks to a girl in my hostel who had a couple of meal vouchers worth €12 so we went to one of Finland's popular chain restaurants, a kind of more upscale TGI Friday's and Applebee's. The Tex-Mex was nothing like I'd find back home, but it was interesting to see their interpretation of it. I had a "Chicken Pocket" which was a tortilla stuffed with tomato, lettuce, and chicken breast with fries and a chili mayonaise. Overall, the restaurant had a young clientele, fairly well-dressed.

Hopefully I'll be able to get my camera within the next day or so and not spend too much money!!
