I was just wondering if Africa is worth visiting and what parts are safe, tourist friendly, but not a tourist trap??? I was thinking egypt. Is it worth staying 2 weeks anywhere in africa??? |

I am in Egypt right now! it's very nice, Mohandessen, Dokki, Zamalek are very nice districts... If you like to dance salsa there's a good place called Jazzup (located in the Nile Hilton Hotel) where you can see really good and chic dancers, and they are all egyptians! they give classes and there's a lot of fun... Also there's a disco next to it, it is called LATEX.
Have fun!!! ;-)

If you're still considering a trip to North Africa, I think people who like cities REALLY like Cairo. For what that's worth. I wasn't such a fan.
africa can be rough, but it doesn't need to be. i'd say a lot depends on your budget.
egypt is easily worth two weeks. there's a ton to see there. the monuments are endless (and honestly interesting, even for a child), the desert, the sinai (diving, beaches), and cairo... cairo is madness made real. absolutely gobsmackingly mad. filthy and busy and endless; but also wonderful.
i'd also recommend looking at uganda. despite what you read in the papers, i found uganda to be easy, safe, and a lot of fun. reasonable roads. good food. lots of english speakers. quality services in many places. honest population. it's still africa and can be dodgy, but compared to kenya and tanzania it was a dream.
you won't see the wildlife there that you'd see in the serengetti, but i think that statement could be made about anywhere in the world. as expensive as it is, the serengetti is not to be missed.
zanzibar is also nice, although not as cheap nor easy as thailand.
Go to Morocco! I haven't been to Africa myself but I feel like Morocco is a good place to start with Africa, different enough to expose you to its full culture but (in theory) not a complete shock to the system. From what I've heard you really need to get out of the big cities, especially those on the coast, where you'll find constant harassment as a tourist. That said, I'm probably just suggesting it because a friend of mine went and got a three-hour full body massage for the equivalent of 10 euro, but each to their own.
I've also heard great things about Senegal and South Africa (though South Africa you have to be careful where you're going, safety wise). So that's my contribution on Africa, a place I've never been...
