Two Pockets
|
In Cuba, it´s good to have two pockets, especially if you´re a Cuban residing abroad who has come home to visit. At present, there are two currencies in Cuba...the convertible peso (CUC) which is the only money tourists are supposed to use, and the peso, which is the national currency and is the money that Cubans use for daily purposes. I´d be lying if I told you I´ve figured out how this works, even after five trips and various explanations from people who insisted it was easy to figure out. Francisco can use both types of currency, but as good as he is with numbers and most everything else, he hasn´t figured it out either. Just because he can use both, doesn´t mean that both are accepted everywhere, and it´s not always immediately clear which currency is in use. I´m not even going to try to figure it out. I´ve just decided it´s good to have two pockets. |

Hey Julie, I'm really really enjoying your posts from Cuba. Everyone I know has been there on all-inclusive holidays (soy canadiense...) but obviously that's not much of a glimpse of life there. Without wishing to idealize things, it's still something I'd really love to get a look at before the potential Big Change.
