Xi'An
|
June 19, 2009 Xi’An Xi’An started off on a great note, and only got marginally less awesome by the time we left. Our first day in town was, of course, spent going out to the Terracotta Warriors. A bit underwhelming compared to all the hype they get, but in the end still worth going. I only recently realized my teacher ID card from 深中 could be used as student ID card without much hassle, so that has helped absorb some high entrance fees recently. The rest of out trip in Xi’An was spent wandering around the city, taking in the sights and (more importantly?) the food. Muslim Chinese food is its own distinct cuisine from places like Lanzhou and Urumqi, and for my money it’s the best type of food in all of China. Having been a dynastic capital and later an important stop on the Silk Road, Xi’An was full of Muslim Noodle shops and street food stalls, and every single one of them was delicious. Now, I’m back in Beijing. Along with Greg, there are 4 other teachers from Shenzhen and 2 random friends of theirs from home tagging along. And, to top it all off, my fraternity brother Matt gets in from Tokyo tomorrow. This should be a fun few days! |

Had no idea there was so much Muslim culture in Xi'an. Food sounds great!
