Jamming at the Tranzac bar

Last night a friend of mine took me to a bar called Tranzac. As we were walking towards it I asked him, "How do you find all these ghetto places?" The bar is located on a secluded residential street, and has a very unwelcoming exterior.

We entered. As I heard the mellow saxophone notes and the drums, I shut myself up and lost all the doubts of my friend's taste and knowledge.

Yes, Tranzac from the outside loses your interest. However having been lured into it by my friend, I admit it is a little cosy bar. Actually, looking more like your cousin's living room, with a sofa in one corner, tables, an old piano and broken windows, it showcases great musical talents every night.

Last night we enjoyed a performance by a local band called 'Camp Combo', jamming an interesting mix of swing and some sort of jazz. Instruments included a saxophone, electric guitar, drums and a well beaten up pot flying around the stage area.

If you are into live jam sessions of anything from trendy, new age to rock and jazz, swing by Tranzac on your next visit to Toronto. Located at
292 Brunswick Avenue. www.tranzac.org
