A Canadian's attempt at the American National Anthem
|
In honor of July 4, I'm going to attempt to sing the American national anthem. (I also spelled honor 'honor', instead of 'honour', in hono(u)r of the big day). Keep in mind that I've never seen the anthem written down. I've only learned this through many years of watching sports, namely hockey. I will try not to butcher it as badly as Rosanne did (or, later, Borat). Here goes... Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light And the rocket's red glare the bomb's bursting in air Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave How did I do? Corrections and insults welcome! Happy 4th of July! |

Carlo,
Fine job, you did; probably better than 9 out of 10 Americans. I salute you !
Thanks Mike!
I dunno, Carlo, I always thought it was "By the donzerly light..." :)
Yeah, she's right. It's donzerly light. Everyone knows that.
Haha...I love donzerly light. So romantic.
True story. You know that song "every time you go away, you take a piece of me with you"? When we were younger my cousin thought it was "every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you."
Nice! I can get about 7 words into Canada's :) It always amazes and shames me how much everyone knows about American society and how little we know of everyone else.
Thank hockey!
Great job! I think you just about nailed it.
three more verses? I thought that sounded short.
Not bad!
But I think (oh dear, I SHOULD know this, as an American) that "And the ramparts we watched" should be "O'er the ramparts we watched...."
And there are three more verses, I believe, but hey, who's counting? 10 out of 10 Americans probably couldn't sing beyond this one!
