On a nostalgic latte rush
|
The lights go out in my home if it rains too much, there is a short in the ceiling that needs to be fixed. My husband says only the men can touch the electric box so I have never been shown how to fix it. They are both at work tonight, so I sit in the dark. It is pitch black with no stars, the trains are squealing past as it breaks for its decent from the mountains, and I sit here typing up restaurant reviews from another day of trudging between sunshine and showers of Wentworth Falls. It is nostalgic after being in 100 year old hotels and pubs over the last week. I spent a day in Katoomba with Mountain Heritage Hotel & Spa being 100 this year, Carrington Hotel has been here longer than that. They had grand styles and majestic staircases enriching the spirit of a bygone era. I spent another day in Penrith with more modern facilities of the Panther’s footie team club complex learning the particular way Aussie embrace the game and lifestyle surrounding it. Another day in Springwood with the down home small town feel that embraces you as if you were a part of the family. In Leura there were beautiful gardens began by a Swedish landscaper that had a vision about the village and loved horticulture more than life. In Faulconbridge at a little cafe on the edge of the Heritage listed National park tells the tale of an artist that many thought was genus in art and insane with his lifestyle. Wentworth Falls held another grand hotel of the past, a Conservation Hut on the edge of the park with a cafe to enjoy it, and the infamous Aussie Pie shop with hundreds of pie choices. I have met more people and learned more about these mountains in the last week then all the book study of the last year. I am truly happy when walking these roads and coming home to write about them. I can’t wait to hit the road again tomorrow for more treasures to be uncovered. I have done and seen more in the last year than I have in the last 18 years since leaving Europe. There is a new lease on life with everything that has come about. I have so many ideas flowing through my head and not the skills to complete the tasks. Frustrating, invigorating and and arrrgh... I know that I have to get a job. There are so many things that we want to do to see more. The 3 to 6 lattes a day for the past week are going to my head. |

I really like how you tell us about so many different places so concisely yet give us a memorable detail to attach to each one. The places aren't just marks on your to-do list; they're places that you perhaps passed through quickly, but where you took the essence and shared it. Thanks!
Thank you... the caffine rush is nice. You sit in a restaurant or cafe observing the people, smells, conversations, etc. to get a feel for the review and learn so much. When I have to talk to employees, managers or owners they start talking about the people that come regularly, the town, and such. It is truly the experience that I am so glad I took this job. It is so true that travellers should stop and listen to find out about where they are to pick up what it is really all about.
