Volunteering at Ramkot:

Voluntary work is one of the most worthwhile activities you can get involved in, whether it is in a developed or a developing country. Throughout the world, there are vast numbers of children who neglected, and in need of love, care and affection.

Tuhura Home Nepal Nepal relies heavily on volunteers to continue providing for the children. Our volunteer program offers volunteers on a gap year or career break to really make a difference to children who would otherwise have little or no mental stimulation in their lives.

Volunteering at Tuhura Home Nepal’s day care centre, you will be working with under-privileged children of different ages. You will help with a variety of educational and social enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, games and songs, stimulate new ideas to interest young children in learning.

Volunteers don't need to be qualified or have had previous experience. The only qualities that the volunteer needs to possess are compassion for fellow human beings and a desire to improve the lives of those less fortunate than their own.

Any encouragement you can offer goes a long way towards building a child's self esteem and confidence. It may be that you can spend your afternoon helping the older children with their homework on their return from school, teaching English, computer skills or even building a classroom.

Spending as little as two weeks working at Children’s Nepal a volunteer can have a hugely significant and positive impact on the lives of the local children and the village community.

Tuhura Home Nepal supports the local village’s rural development. We also look for volunteers interested in assisting the villagers with construction projects, improving village facilities and infrastructure.
Our volunteer program costs 250 $USD. This includes application and placement administrative fees, Transportation to and from Kathmandu Airport, One day Orientation and Sightseeing, Support and Supervision at School, 24 hour internet access at the volunteer accommodation, assistance with arranging Trekking and other excursions, Donation to Tuhura Home Nepal.

Accommodation at the volunteer house at Ramkot village costs 300 $USD per month, a Home Stay with a local family: 300 $USD per month, or if you prefer to stay in a hotel/hostel, we can arrange this for you.

Volunteers must make a deposit of the program fee and first months accomodation to secure their placement. The remainder of the fees are expected upon arrival.

The fee does not cover flight costs, visas, health expenses, travel insurance, airport departure tax, any additional personal expenses. You will need a weekly budget of up $20 to cater for all your other expenses like bottled water, personal items, laundry, transportation and entertainment.

There are many items we need to improve the quality of care we can offer the children, please consider donating one or more of the urgently needed items below. Email us and we will advise you on shipping/posting your donation.

Alternatively you can donate to the purchase of an item (Many items are cheaper when bought locally and also you are supporting the local economy).

Sponsor a Child or village project:

Funding is continual concern. Please consider sponsoring or part-sponsoring a child or project - you can make a lasting difference to the children and their families.

Full sponsorship of a child or children (800 $USD per year per child). Tuhura Home Nepal will send you send you a photo, a brief history, and an annual report on your child, with whom you may correspond directly.

Educational sponsorship of a child or children (156 $USD per year/13 $USD per month per child). Your sponsorship will provide for a child’s schooling and educational materials. You will receive a photo and information about the child, as well as an annual report.

Sponsoring the food for 1 or more children allows us to improve the quality of meals we provide and offer them to more village children. By increasing the number of children that have access to meals we reduce the finatial burden on local families. Food per month per child: 20 $USD

Sponsoring or donating to improvements to the village water supply system, presently in a substandard state. Estimated cost 3000 $USD

The construction of a basic play-ground (slide, seesaw, swings, etc.). Estimated cost 1000 $USD

Improvement of our Kitchen facilities so we can cater to more children. Estimated cost 500 $USD.

Construction and repair of village roads, improvements to the general village infrustructure. Estimated cost 6000 $USD.

Construction of new classrooms allowing us to expand our facilities. One classroom: 1200 $USD

All works will be made by local villagers using traditional methods and materials.
