Our Mission:
Our mission is to nurture new generations of ecologically aware, academically well-rounded bilingual individuals. We work to provide students with the knowledge, values and skills necessary to make environmentally and socially conscious decisions on a local, national and global scale.

Our vision is a sustainable future for the Earth through educating individuals to love, respect and protect the natural environment, to strive for justice and peace as well as academic excellence and to work towards conserving biodiversity and enriching community life.

What We Do:
Our school is based on 106 acres of pristine Cloud Forest, making it the perfect place to focus on environmental education. Our curriculum attempts to integrate the environment into all aspects and subject areas of learning. This also includes land stewardship classes and nature appreciation sessions every week, together with our ongoing reforestation projects. By taking the responsibility for the school's environment and learning the basic skills of land stewardship, our students gain the knowledge, tools and passion to become knowledgable environmental advocates. We are a bilingual school which provides a culturally diverse learning environment, with students range from Kinder to 11th grade (ages 3 to 18)

The CEC is the first school in Costa Rica with a curriculum focused around environmental education. Our 106 acre campus is protected by one of the country's first conservation easements (the first one in the Monteverde zone). We are pioneers in regenerating the cloud forest ecosystem. Currently, the CEC has the only major reforestation program in the area. The National Wildlife Federation designated the CEC as the first Schoolyard Habitat in Central America. We are the first private Costa Rican school to be legally recognized by the government for its “Utilidad Pública” (public benefit), meaning that it is not only beneficial to the students, but also the community at large. We are applying to be the first school admitted into the Costa Rican Private Reserve Network.

Queridos Amigos de CEC,

It looks like you are doing incredible work and it's an honor to have you as part of our community. I'll be recommending your school to travelers going to CR, and if there's anything else I can do to help, please don't hesitate to contact me.
