Our Mission: Partnering with families, health workers, and farmers to promote the consumption and cultivation of the highly nutritious grain amaranth, Puente a la Salud Comunitaria is dedicated to the eradication of malnutrition and the improvement of health in rural Mexico.
What We Do: Puente has three projects that function together to reintroduce amaranth to the diet and landscape of rural Oaxaca.
The Healthy Families project facilitates amaranth-based nutrition, cooking, and planting demonstrations with 1,000 women in 20 communities.
The Training Farmers project trains 120 farmers in 12 communities in sustainable agriculture and how to grow amaranth on a large scale for commercial sale.
The Training Trainers project trains 150 community development workers from local NGOs and government organizations to facilitate their own amaranth promotion workshops.
