Our Mission: The Documentary Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the production and support of documentary films. We have two projects currently in production: Roughing It and Diamond in the Dunes, a feature-length film about a Chinese-Muslim baseball team. We also offer comprehensive resources for documentary filmmakers, including fiscal sponsorships, a ‘for filmmakers’ production guide, and promotional assistance for films in distribution.
What We Do: The Documentary Foundation's flagship program, Roughing It, is a smart, young, and adventurous travel show from host Keith Ochwat and producer-director Christopher Rufo. The series takes its name from Mark Twain’s classic book, Roughing It, documenting his journey through the American Wild West. Like Twain, we are committed to adventure travel, humor and, most importantly, the wonderful characters we meet along the way. As the master wrote in 1872: “This, indeed, is worth living for, worth traveling for!”
