In France you can plan to climb the Eiffel Tower or intend to taste world-famous wine in Burgundy, but, it's the least-expected real life experiences that leave lasting impressions of Paris...

"I had spent a wonderful day wandering Paris - a Sunday so I greatly enjoyed seeing and hearing buskers - from a man who seemed able to play several instruments at once, to a group who played folk tunes and danced with bystanders.

I was a little lost in St Germaine in a narrow lane when I heard the most beautiful music. I looked around to see which window it was coming from, only to realise it was two girls busking at the end of the alley. Their voices intertwined and soared. I felt unable to move.

As I stood there listening, gradually a crowd gathered and started applauding each song. The singing was so beautiful and moving that even though I couldn't understand the French lyrics I stood there with tears running down my face. The twenty minutes I stood listening to these girls was the highlight of my six days in Paris!"
