I just got this from my friend Haley, who is sending me powdered gatorade to take to India because it saved her life in Ghana. (Although it didn't actually stop her from having explosive diarrhea in the middle of a crowded street festival.)

"Hey Dude,

I don't have much time to write right now but I wanted to tell you something very important before I forget to. So I sent you a package today. It's just gatorade, but the important thing is what is inside the container of gatorade. When you get the package make sure to open the container to get your birthday gift. I hid it in the gatorade because my parents convinced me that it would be stolen if it wasn't hidden well. When my mom sent me a package in Ghana it was returned nearly three months later with all the candy eaten and a bible inside. So just look in the gatorade container before you do anything else."

My friends have always had their doubts about the Polish postal system, but aside from a prolonged delay of a package at customs last year (I'm sure the customs officials were scratching their heads and going "What is this...this...Sriracha?"), it's never given me any problems. I guess I've been missing out on candy wrappers and free bibles.

Have you ever had any funny incidences with international shipping? How's the postal service in India? Because I'm not intending to schlep a bunch of souvenirs all over Asia; I thought I would send them back home while traveling. If the Indian post is as...inconsistent as that in Ghana, then I guess my friends will be out of luck.

Hmmm... I'd guess Indian postal service is better than Ghanaian. After all, people mail carpets and things home all the time, don't they? Also, I suspect that a package leaving a country is less likely to get Bible-ified (that's HILARIOUS, by the way) than an inbound one...

I've successfully sent several enormous Cadbury bars to a friend in Thailand. Never had any problems with Malaysia or South Korea, either.
