Hi All,

I am landing in BA in July. I will be staying in hostels and doing a little under the table work. Does anyone know roughly how much money I should have saved? I know this is a vague question, but I have researched prices and costs of everything and I think somewhere around 3500 USD should be good for a few months to get me by and do a few touristy things :)

Any advice will help!

Hey. I heading down to BA in August. But I will be at ECELA, a language school. If you are interested in learnings Spanish, this school includes weekly outings to most of the touristic spots. Prices are pretty good. http://ecela.com/program.php I think 3500 USD will serve you very well. Also make sure you check out couchsurfing.com, staying with native hosts could get you into some amazing situations and its free accommodation, pretty much anywhere you want to go!

Cheers
Lana

I've no idea if BA is really that much more expensive than the rest of Argentina, as I have never bothered to venture too far east, I tend to get spoked if I can not see the mountains in the horizon!!!

But about the money, I have managed to live since February on $3500 in Mendoza. I haven't taken language classes, as I already speak well, but this amount does include two weeks travel for two people to Patagonia, the odd trip out of town, two days car rental and usually one nice meal for two in a restaurant per week.

I could easily have spent less, I am constantly amazed at the amount I waste! Just remember to buy your groceries at the local fruit stand and not at Carrefour. Its cheaper, tastes better and the money actually goes to somebody who needs it!
