There are whispers that a transition to exile is in the works, but I don't know if he's ready to bow out just yet. Conflicting reports every day. Check out globeandmail.com and look for Stephanie Nolen's by-line, in the "World" section - she's Jo'burg-based normally, I believe she's on the ground in Harare though. One of the best journalists working in Africa today.
Lastest news: runoff necessary. The country's constitution says it should occur in three weeks, but The Voice of America reports Mugabe will try to extend that to three months to regroup.
The exile deal was too good to be true for the people of Zim. Mugabe is as bad as they come. He should end up at the Hague and be indicted on crimes against humanity charges. Seriously, one of the worst thugs of our time.
This is the latest I've heard, (4 days ago):

It's gotten worse. They are doing a recall of 12 parlimentary elections. If they go Mugabe's way, the opposing party will lose it's majority and Mugabe will once again be president. This according to All Things Considered on NPR yesterday/BBC World News this morning. I had a bad feeling when the exile didn't come quickly.
On a separate African political note, Kenya announced it's compromise government. They have 40 cabinet members. That's almost three times what we have in the States and look how much we (don't) get done.

I'm anxiously tracking the recent elections in Zimbabwe and am curious if anyone else in this community is? The latest from the LA Times says a run-off is a likely, predictions of violence from Mugabe and his supporters a certainty. Any thoughts?
