I've just been accepted to teach in Ecuador and Spain for a year, and I have to decide which program to go with pretty soon. I'm very conflicted though. The WorldTeach program in Ecuador costs a bit more but has more included. The CIEE program in Spain is back in southern Spain where I used to live, and I'd love to return there. I've never been to Ecuador and would love to experience something new. Choices! Can anyone give me some advice?

I vote for Ecuador.
First, you already know Spain (not that there's not more to know and love). Ecuador is fascinating, though, for so many reasons, and I think it's a particularly interesting moment to be there.
If you do choose Ecuador, I have some pre-trip book and documentary recommendations.

Thanks for the advice. I must admit, I think I'm leaning towards Ecuador also, but then I keep thinking "what about Spain??" I'll let you know when I do decide.

Ecuador all the way, dude! I love Spain, but you've already been there an done that. Plus, I don't know the last time you were in Spain but I was just there and if you're spending dollars, it is carisimo!

Never been to Ecuador (would love to go), but sounds like a cooler adventure.

Thanks for the insight, Ross. I've actually already decided to go to Ecuador, so come September that'll be my new home.

Umm, this forum is probably way expired since I see you've already made your mind up. But I'm curious about the teaching program you're involved in. I'm interested in doing something like that, but don't have a TEFL or teaching degree. I do have a bachelors degree (in Psych) and lots of experience with kids, but what sorts of qualifications do you need to have to do these things? And are there big fees?
By the way, I've spent a fair amount of time in both places (Spain and Ecuador), so if you want any tips on Ecuador I can help you out there-

Hey bro,

Ecuador is a truly stunning country. It's small and diverse with three main regions. The coast, the Andes, and the jungle. It's relatively cheap to live and travel there and it's pretty easy to get around. Ecuador is definitely poorer than Spain and that might offer you some unique opportunities and experiences that you can adapt in your time there if you choose Ecuador.
Either way I think both countries are great so it just comes down to the tuff choice of pickin,

Cheers
