I've heard a little about this big event that goes on over in Nevada. It sounds like it would be an interesting and somewhat educational event. I was wondering if anyone has been to Burning Man or plans to go this year? If there is any advice that could be given that would be great.

I've been to Burning Man 6 times, and would never miss it! My wife went for her first time this past year, and she'll never not go. It is a really incredible experience if you are open minded, adventurous, self reliant and like things out of the ordinary. Set in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, this desert of nothingness goes from barren desert to the 3rd largest city in Nevada...for one week, and then back to nothing and there is no trace that mankind has ever been there. It is a gift economy...no money changes hands except for ice and coffee. Other than that, you have to bring everything you need to survive in and bring it all back out with you. It is a kind and wonderful community of cool people that you won't find anywhere else on the planet. Each year, I make a video of my experience and give it out the following year as my gift. If you would like a copy, just shoot me an e-mail at and I'd be happy to send you one. You can check out a few of my photos from this past year at http://McQuaid.smugmug.com/Events

The dvd offer goes for anyone reading this that would like one.

Dweebie,
I've been to burningman twice and plan to go again in 2008. My advice is simple: be prepared! Bring lots of water and drink it. Pace yourself, you'll never see everything at burningman so plan on wandering around the desert with NO plan and you'll have a great time.
