I found one book that might be of interest. It is fiction but it might be a bit of a heavy read. I cut this from indigo/chapters:
Assault on Paradise
Winner of the 1995 Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz Prize, ASSAULT ON PARADISE vividly depicts how the conquistadores and the Church invaded Central America, impoverishing one world to enrich another. A compelling novel of fast-paced, bawdy, swashbuckling adventure in Central America of the early 1700s by acclaimed Costa Rican novelist Tatiana Lobo.

Anyone have a recommendation for a great book--fiction or non-fiction--about Costa Rica? My mom's headed down there for a trip in March and I'd like to give her a good book (not a guide book) for her journey.
Peace,
Julie
