Marine Program Coordinator

Country: Indonesia  |  09/07/07

The Indonesia Marine Program Coordinator will play a dynamic and wide-ranging role in supporting the planning and implementation of several large-scale marine conservation initiatives, with a primary focus on the Bird’s Head Seascape initiative in Papua and additional efforts directed towards the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape and CI’s Indonesian sea turtle conservation initiative. The Coordinator’s tasks will be multifaceted and ambitious, ranging from support for fundraising proposal development and long-term conservation planning to donor reporting, building partner relations and overseeing both scientific and conservation activities at our field sites. Depending on the successful candidate’s experience and interest, these tasks may also involve support in the development of the management plans for new MPAs in our seascapes and oversight of our external grants program to partners. This position will be based at CI Indonesia’s marine program office in Bali, with up to 15-20% travel to field sites depending on the successful candidate’s interest in such.

The coordinator will work closely with both the Director and the Senior Advisor of Indonesia’s marine program and will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of the exciting and ambitious Indonesia marine portfolio. We seek a passionate but flexible individual with a strong commitment to marine conservation and excellent writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities:
Support the planning of and fundraising for large-scale marine conservation initiatives in Indonesia, with a primary focus on the Bird’s Head Seascape

Maintain open lines of communication with CI HQ, our partners and our donors on Indonesian marine program goals, needs, and progress via reporting, email correspondence and meetings

Provide mentoring and oversight of field staff on an as-needed basis, with technical support focused on development of management plans for new MPAs in our seascape regions

Oversee the external grants programs in both the Bird’s Head Seascape and Indonesian side of the Sulu Sulawesi Seascape, including helping partners develop proposals and supervising the implementation and successful reporting for these external grants.

Required Skills:
The Coordinator position will require a strong technical background in implementation of marine conservation programs (preferably in the field) and excellent communication skills. Because this position will be writing donor reports, preparing proposals and maintaining lines of communication with HQ and our partners, the ability to write well is absolutely essential. Though a Master’s degree in marine biology or marine resource management would be desirable, emphasis is placed on at least 5 years’ experience in implementing marine conservation programs.
