Summer Camps 2008

Location: Togo  |  02/28/08

To reinforce the capacity of the organization and to give youth, from no matter which background the opportunity to engage in sustainable development, JVE organizes since a couple of years summer camps.

This year there will be one camp organized around the theme "reforestation" in Tsevié in the Zio Prefecture from 10 July to 31 July2008.

The participants' number is maximum 26. Off course all participants will receive a short introduction on reforestation: Why should we reforest? How? Where?
Afterwards it is time to get busy. A local branch of JVE will have the mission to start tree nurseries and to follow up the young plants until maturity. Afterwards they will be replanted by the participants. We have to remark that this concerns labour force which sometimes can be tiring. Working utensils like pikes, machetes and picks will be used as well. But don't worry; meanwhile there will be plenty of time to discover Togo and its rich cultures.
On the campsite everybody is considered to be responsible and therefore participation and solidarity is demanded in every action. For example, the volunteers are in charge of the kitchen. Off course they will be guided by an animator who is charged to organize these different tasks as well as the teams who will occupy themselves with the tasks.

Youth, from no matter which country, can assist to the summer camps as long as they are 18 years or older. The knowledge of French is demanded. English can be a surplus. The participation fee is at 150 euro or 100.000 FCFA. This covers lodging, food, the plants, transportation to the camp and other unpredictable costs. The participant himself has to arrange his assurance and his transport towards Lomé, where he/she will be awaited for at the airport by someone of the organization. Also, it is very important to check whether all necessary vaccinations are taken. A mosquito net to protect oneself during the night is preferable.

!!!NB: Togo is a country in development so we wish to take into account a possible culture clash and to prepare for less luxury conditions. Sometimes you will be up to six persons in one room, possible sleeping on small mats. Certainly, there will be well cleaned toilets and showers.

All interested youngsters can contact the responsible of the organization Kossivi Patrick Adessou: for the questionnaire, the application form and all possible questions and information.
