Volunteer in Orphanage and Children Home

Location: Ghana  |  09/05/07

Spend time working to bring hope to the hopelessness. The children come from a variety of situations including loss of one or both parents, physical and sexual abuse, extreme poverty, and more suffering than many of us can imagine. Many of these children have been denied the chance at an education as well as the basics for survival-food and shelter. By volunteering at an orphanage, you will have the chance to offer them support, affection, and the benefits of a basic education.Volunteers at this placement lead activities with the children including games, informal education, arts and crafts, reading activities, music and more.

Our program is focussed on addressing the needs of the street children forced from their homes through poverty, neglect or abuse. This project presents the opportunity to help Street Children and those who have lost their parents.
You will be working at an orphanage or a day care centre for children in the areas. The children live in the orphanage until they are adopted or placed with family members that can take better care of them.
As a volunteer working in the orphanage, you will be filling an important role in the lives of these needy children, as well as assisting the hardworking the staff at the orphanage.
You may also get involved with counselling sessions, so there are real prospects to make a difference.

DAVS will provide the needed support in acquiring visa, flight, and advise on the necessary vaccinations.

DAVS volunteers are placed with screened host families and volunteer hostels. Where meals are provided, you should receive at least two meals a day throughout your training and placement, which will be of a suitable quality or quantity by local standards. If you wish to supplement your diet with other foods the responsibility of these expenses are yours. We will only cover food, transportation within the country and accommodation for the period agreed for your placement and only at your placement and training.
